The Flint & Steel Leather Company is a small shop located in Québec, Canada. All of our products are handcrafted one by on using traditional methods. We create durable goods with a much superior quality and look than what the market usually offers.
A Flint & Steel is a traditional tool used in fire making process by striking the Steel on a flint stone to create a spark. It has been used by our ancestors for more than 3000 years to start those precious fires. It embodies durability, reliability and reliance. It was usually carried in a leather pouch.
My name is Marc-Etienne and I am the founder and artisan of the Flint & Steel Leather Co. I started F&S on a desire to craft and offer quality leather goods that would be beautiful while made to last. My grand father was a leather crafter himself and my father is a woodworker. When I started leather crafting myself, it just felt natural to pursue this tradition and share my creation to people who enjoy great aesthetics and durability.
In an age when everything is imported and automated, it feels good to bring back the handmade Heritage.
Leathers we use.
We only use full grain leather coming from renown US and Italian tanneries.
- Buttero from Conceria Walpier(Italy). This vegetable tanned leather is known around the world to be one of the most beautiful and resilient available. There is a wide variety of colours to choose from. The patina of this leather is also incredible.
- Pueblo from Badalassi Carlo(Italy). You can recognize this leather from miles away. This vegetable tanned leather creates some very unique looking goods and is a real pleasure to work with.
Thread we use.
Thread is an important player in the overall quality of an item. That is why we use Tiger thread from Germany. This thread is considered to be one of the best available for leather crafting. It is made of 100% polyester and is slightly waxed for more resistance and durability.
